In November we had a petition from a group of church leaders in Peru to train 59 students through FLET. What an opportunity! Yet as we interacted with their leaders it became evident that it was too expensive for them. It costs us $90 dollars for a 3-credit course to provide them with our accredited degree, yet these students earn only $100 per month. With great pain in our hearts we had to turn them down due to a lack of scholarship funds to offer them. (As you well know, most schools here in the US charge over $600 dollars for a 3 credit course, so what we provide is very inexpensive.)

In Colombia and Venezuela we have approximately 175 active students in each country at this point. This is two to three times less than we had three years ago. Why? As with Peru, these countries have been experiencing great economic difficulties and students have had to drop out. Imagine! Pastors and leaders eager to study and prepare themselves for the ministry, yet not able to do so because of lack of funds.

This is where we believe you and I can help.

We are launching an “Adopt a Student” drive to get sponsors for each of these students that can’t pay for their studies. This is how it will look:

1. From each country we will get scholarship applications with forms and references that will clearly single out the needy students.

2. We are giving you and your church the opportunity to adopt students for $25 dollars a month so that they can take three courses per year (9 credits). You can choose the country if you wish.

3. We will send you their picture, a brief profile, and comments from the students about their progress so that you can support them in prayer. (All interaction will take place through the Flet Office here in Miami and we will keep your information confidential.)
